INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEERING

We have a variety of volunteer opportunities at GLWD. So whether you want to chop carrots, deliver meals, process donations or help with special events, we need your help.

Kitchen Volunteers

Volunteers assist our chefs to prepare more than 3000 nutritious meals every weekday. Our kitchen is open Sunday through Friday. Duties involve food preparation (e.g., slicing, dicing and cleaning food) and food packaging.

Neighborhood Meal Distribution Center

A Neighborhood Meal Distribution Center (NMDC) is a location (church, synagogue, gym, real estate office, etc...) in a neighborhood that is centrally located to a group of GLWD clients. We bring the prepared food in thermal tubs (hot, cold, frozen components) to your location in the morning (by 11am) and around lunch time your staff/coworkers and or neighborhood volunteers will open up the tubs, bag up the meals and deliver to the clients (paperwork with addresses and phone numbers are enclosed).

How to become a NMDC

To become a NMDC call (212) 294-8158 or email volunteer@glwd.org with your name, address and phone number. I volunteer cordinator will contact you.

Delivery Van Assistants

Volunteers accompany staff drivers from our SoHo location on their routes, assisting with delivering meals to both Neighborhood Meal Distribution Centers and individual client homes

Office Assistance

Volunteers answer phones, handle mail, process donations, and assist in all general office work.

Special Events

Volunteers play an integral role in the success of all our fundraising events. They also represent our organization at community outreaches, street and health fairs, and benefits. These events raise funds, increase public awareness and recruit volunteers. Volunteers also participate in holiday-specific projects like assembling Thanksgiving baskets and wrapping holiday gifts.
