For people living with severe illness in the New York City metropolitan area, God’s Love We Deliver provides nutrition therapy, and cooks and home delivers medically tailored meals. We are a non-sectarian organization. All of our services are provided free to clients and full of love.

About the Role

The Policy & Planning Associate collaborates with the Senior Director of Policy & Planning on agency-wide policy and advocacy projects. The position is also responsible for the administrative side of applications and reporting for the agency’s major public grants. The position collaborates with the Communication team on policy communications for the agency and assists the Senior Director of Policy & Planning and the President & CEO with the administration of the national coalition, the Food Is Medicine Coalition.  This is a hybrid position allowing for some remote work and requiring regular in office workdays.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Represent the agency with multiple constituencies, focusing mainly on outreach to elected and administrative city, state, and national representatives.
  • Advocate during NYC’s annual budgetary process.
  • Ensure timely and accurate actions/responses to legislative and regulatory requests.
  • Lead social media efforts and manage advocacy materials to drive the #foodismedicine campaign.
  • Research, compile and analyze statistics, from internal and external sources, to inform policy and planning and increase agency visibility and support on issues related to critical and chronic illnesses, hunger, and nutrition.
  • File periodic administrative documents/reports to keep current with our public grants and advocacy funding.
  • Lead public grant renewals/applications, at Manager’s discretion.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Policy & Planning to seek increased funding for advocacy activities at the local, state, and federal level through partnership with the Development Department.
  • Formalize and maintain a tracking process for Government Relations administration and deliverables.
  • Create policy statements, sign-on letters, op-eds and articles for the city, state, and federal level.
  • Work with Senior Director of Policy & Planning to identify, address and drive issues for the Food Is Medicine Advocacy Initiative.
  • Maintain the Food Is Medicine website and listserv. Plan webinars and meetings on behalf of the Food is Medicine Coalition.
  • Lead the planning and administration of the annual Food is Medicine Coalition National Symposium.

 In addition, the right candidate meets the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nutrition, or related field; Master’s Degree a plus.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a policy, government relations, administrative fast-paced non-profit environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Superior attention to detail; organizational and motivational skills
  • Strong ability to understand data and analytics
  • Proficient with technology specifically for webinars, meetings and project management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with working knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently, while displaying diplomacy, tact, and discretion.
  • Strategic mindset with an ability to think and focus on both the near- term and long-term.
  • Project Management, coalition and advocacy work is a plus.
