For people living with severe illness in the New York City metropolitan area, God’s Love We Deliver provides nutrition therapy, and cooks and home delivers medically tailored meals. We are a non-sectarian organization. All of our services are provided free to clients and full of love.

About the Role

We seek a Production Sous Chef to join our dynamic Kitchen team and help bring our life-changing program to more New Yorkers who are living with serious illness. God’s Love We Deliver produces more than 7,000 nutritionally-customized meals a day, cooking from scratch, packaging, and blast-chilling each meal in our state-of-the-art 10,000-sq-ft commercial kitchen in Soho. The Production Sous Chef helps design meals and large-scale production cycle, then makes it happen. This person ensures that our large team of employees and our dedicated volunteers are working efficiently and effectively to create a gold-standard product, from entrees like salmon with green sauce and coconut chicken stew to special treats like the personalized cakes we deliver to all clients on their birthdays. The Production Sous Chef is also responsible for implementing and enforcing processes, procedures and regulatory requirements.

This role reports to the God’s Love We Deliver Executive Chef and requires regular evening and weekend work.

Position Objectives and Expectations

  • Supervise the daily work of a wide range of kitchen staff members and volunteers.
  • Partner with the Executive Chef on special projects, such as R&D for new menu items or improved packaging.
  • Ensure the highest standards of food safety and sanitation, following all regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure high-quality meal production, including monitoring ingredient quality and ensuring consistency of recipe execution.
  • Train and monitor staff as necessary, including demonstrating proper cooking techniques and the correct use of kitchen equipment.
  • Manage inventory control; order supplies as needed.
  • In conjunction with the Executive Chef, create, maintain and enforce staff and volunteer policies and procedures.
  • Participate in special events as needed.


About You:

You are highly self-motivated and empathetic, with a strong work ethic and a strong desire to develop and prepare medically-tailored meals to clients living with serious illness. You are looking for a collaborative, team-oriented environment with an important mission to complete.

In addition, you meet the following requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years of managerial experience – hiring, training, coaching, educating and supervising staff
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in a busy food service environment.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to manage employees at different skill levels and in different roles.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced work environment, and work with a sense of urgency.
  • Creative approach to problem-solving, with proven results.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Can work independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Has or will secure NYC Food Handler’s Certificate.
  • Can lift and move 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Will work with exposure to extreme temperature conditions (hot and cold).
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
  • Bakery experience is a plus.
