The Food is Medicine Coalition (FIMC) is a national coalition of providers who deliver medically tailored meals and nutrition counseling to people in communities across the country who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves. Medically tailored meals (MTMs) are delivered to individuals living with severe illness through a referral from a medical professional or healthcare plan. Meal plans are tailored to the medical needs of the recipient by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). FIMC is gathered to provide a complete, evidence-informed, medical food and nutrition intervention to critically and chronically ill people in their communities, to advance public policy that supports access to food and nutrition services for people with severe and/or chronic illnesses, to promote research on the efficacy of food and nutrition services on health outcomes and cost of care, to share best practices in the provision of medically tailored meals and of nutrition education and counseling.
The Project and Communications Associate collaborates with the Executive Director on national projects covering policy, research, best practices and nutrition, while managing communications for the Coalition. The position collaborates with various Coalition committees to move the work of the coalition forward and acts as project manager on Communications Committee projects. The position is also responsible for the administration of the Coalition, including scheduling meetings, coordinating internal and external communication systems and managing membership. The Associate helps organize and plan the National Symposium each year, as well as regular membership meetings.
