About the Role

The Senior Accountant assists in the completion of the monthly and annual close; prepares and reviews journal entries, monthly account analyses and reconciliations of assigned balance sheet accounts and year end audit work papers.  This Senior Accountant works with and supports the Chief Financial Officer in developing, implementing, and providing ongoing financial oversight, ensuring the appropriate use and accurate reporting of all financial transactions.

  • This is a hybrid position allowing for some remote work and requiring regular in-office workdays.
  • This is a Full-Time exempt position, paying $63,000-$70,000 annually.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the terms and conditions of agreements are met and properly documented and communicated.
  • Provide information to finance staff as necessary to assist in month end close activities.
  • Maintain efficient electronic and paper filing systems for financial records.
  • Demonstrate discreteness while keeping all information confidential.
  • Assist with the month and year end close process; helping to ensure completeness of general ledger data.
  • Help with the development, maintenance, and improvement of the department’s standard operating procedures; create workflows that ensure the integrity of financial data.
  • Review the billing processes; work with the Chief Financial Officer to confirm that billing and recording processes are in place.
  • Prepare financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Prepare timely and accurate reconciliation of assigned general ledger accounts on a recurring basis.
  • Resolve accounting and reporting issues as necessary; prepare monthly budget-versus-actual status reports for use by the Chief Financial Officer; identify issues, concerns and problems and communicate with the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Compile and analyze financial and operational information required to prepare journal entries; review accounting classifications in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and God’s Love We Deliver’s accounting procedures.
  • Review budgets and reimbursement requests for appropriateness, and ensure sub-recipients follow established administrative and financial policies, procedures, and sound business practices.
  • Organizes and coordinates the centralized accounting and financial reporting for assigned grant portfolio. Responsibilities include providing primary accounting function for all grant monitoring administration, compliance, grant accounting, and financial reports of awarded grants through their final closing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

In addition, the right candidate meets the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration; Master’s preferred.
  • Strong command of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Minimum of 4 years of fast-paced non-profit accounting environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong proficiency in Finance ERP; experience with NetSuite preferred.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Must be able to operate effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Superior time management skills with the ability to work effectively under deadlines.
  • Excellent communications skills, with demonstrated ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders with diplomacy, tact, and discretion.
  • Strategic mindset with an ability to think and focus on both the near- and long-term.
