About God’s Love We Deliver

God’s Love We Deliver, a nonsectarian organization, is the New York metropolitan area’s leading provider of life-sustaining meals and nutrition counseling for people living with severe illnesses. Begun as an HIV/AIDS service organization, today God’s Love provides for people living with more than 200 individual diagnoses. God’s Love cooks and home delivers the specific, nutritious meals a client’s severe illness and treatment so urgently require. Meals are individually tailored for each client by one of our Registered Dietitians, and all clients have access to unlimited nutrition counseling. God’s Love supports families by providing meals for the children and senior caregivers of its clients. All of the agency’s services are provided free of charge.

The Food Network & Cooking Channel New York City Wine & Food Festival presented by Capital One (NYCWFF) is NYC’s largest wine and food festival showcasing the talents of the world’s most renowned chefs, wine and spirit producers, culinary personalities, lifestyle experts and America’s most beloved television chefs.  NYCWFF supports New Yorkers affected by severe illness and food poverty through God’s Love We Deliver and Food Bank For New York City.

About the Role

The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator – Special Projects is responsible for recruiting, training, managing, and recognizing the efforts of volunteers for major projects at God’s Love We Deliver. Projects include the New York City Wine & Food Festival (NYCWFF), Thanksgiving Day, basket day, winter emergency meals, summer emergency meals, client mailing, and anything assigned by the Director of Volunteer Services.  They will also be responsible for all skill-based volunteer recruitment, interviewing,  and placement for departments such as Nutrition, Finance, and Development.  This is a hybrid position allowing for some remote work and requiring regular in office workdays.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

New York City Wine & Food Festival (NYCWFF)

  • Meet with NYCWFF event managers in late spring/early summer to determine the number of volunteers, roles, and shift times required per event; identify where Culinary Volunteers are needed and determine the skill level appropriate for Culinary Volunteers per event.
  • Attend all NYCWFF committee and program meetings leading up to the festival.
  • Evaluate Festival volunteer programs to ensure effectiveness; recommend, and implement changes as appropriate.
  • Supervise all of the NYCWFF Event Managers.
  • Work with NYCWFF Ticketing manager to equip and educate volunteers on registration and ticket scanning technology (e.g., ensuring we have enough scanning iPhones, training on SquadUP app).
  • Ensure all volunteers understand, and are heeding, volunteer work requirements and following the volunteer code of conduct.
  • Create, and define needs for all agency projects and NYCWFF in Volunteer Hub.
  • Prepare a thorough recap for all agency and NYCWFF projects; recommend the most efficient use of volunteers, appropriate volunteer/supervisory mix, and future volunteer workforce needs to appropriately support the festival.

Special Events/Holiday/Project Management

  • Assist in planning for God’s Love’s major events including the holidays by defining volunteer needs, sourcing extra recruits and managing the project in VolunteerHub.
  • Develop volunteer communication materials and guidelines to be used for events sponsored by God’s Love.
  • Represent the agency at events sponsored by God’s Love and its outside affiliates/partners.
  • Organize, assist and participate in volunteer parties and and other special events.
  • Contribute articles to the God’s Love’s volunteer special delivery website.

 Volunteer Recruitment and Orientation

  • Ensure volunteer shifts are adequately staffed.
  • Conduct and/or arrange for volunteer orientation and training.
  • Maintain Volunteer Service Descriptions for each volunteer assignment in Volunteer Hub.
  • Host and attend recruiting events within the community to attract qualified volunteer candidates.
  • Interview and place applicants for volunteer work.
  • Provide backup support for Volunteer Engagement Coordinators.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other volunteer organizations.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance for volunteers.

In addition, the right candidate meets the following requirements:

  • Associates Degree or above
  • At least 3 years of experience managing volunteers
  • At least 3 years of experience developing and delivering training in front of large groups
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of an organization, including Board and senior management.
  • Must have strong interpersonal communications skills, demonstrating cultural competency and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of constituents.
  • Must have strong presentation skills and be comfortable speaking in front of large groups.
  • Team player committed to the mission of God’s Love We Deliver.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in VolunteerHub a strong plus.
