Year-End Match

My husband Rand was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on March 4, 2008, the same day I “celebrated” my 30th birthday. His diagnosis came out of nowhere and immediately turned our lives upside down. Illness can happen to anyone at any time. Four months later, on a beautiful July 4 morning, Rand took his final breath in my arms. Through it all, we had friends and family by our side. And for that, I am eternally grateful. But so many people are not as fortunate, and without the help of God’s Love We Deliver, thousands of New Yorkers, our neighbors, face illness and possibly death, alone.

Good nutrition and health were at the forefront of Rand’s life, so it was especially devastating when he lost his appetite adn the ability to digest the necessary foods allowing him to fight. To survive. Despite everything his doctors did, it was a health-supportive chef who made the biggest impact on his life. Her medically tailored meals not only brought back his appetite, but Rand described those mealtimes as the only moments his body felt whole. His heart once again full. Sitting down to a healthy meal put cancer aside so he could be a husband, friend, brother, and son. It’s what allowed Rand to live his final months with dignity and surrounded by love.

God’s Love We Deliver ensures that everyone facing the crisis of severe illness has the same opportunity as Rand. We serve the sickest of the sick and we do it with our hearts forward. As a Board member and kitchen volunteer, I get to witness more than 13,000 volunteers who prepare and deliver over 1.8 million medically tailored meals to our clients every year. And it is magic. Our food is medicine. Our food is love. Our neighbors’ lives depend on both.

There is so much love to give, and God’s Love cannot do it without your support. This is why I have chosen to match your donations, up to $25,000, through the end of this year. Please join me in providing meals, comfort, hope, and dignity to New Yorkers living with severe illness, as well as their children, loved ones, and caregivers.

With your help, we can make sure that our neighbors fight their illness with strength and live their lives with dignity. Please make a gift today. In honor of Rand, I’ll match it.

From my heart to yours,

Terrence Meck
