Celebrating 60 Years of Community Health Centers with our Partners at Ryan Health

During the week of August 3-9, 2025, we had the opportunity to celebrate National Health Center Week alongside our partners at Ryan Health and other Health Centers around the country, members of the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC). The activities organized by our partners during this week were a resounding success, showcasing our joint commitment to community health, equity and partnership to improve health outcomes for all.

During this week, our Business Development and Community Partnerships team, responsible for fostering relationships with external partners and promoting our services, as well as members of our Research Team and collaborators at Columbia Mailman School of Public Health, were able to engage with our partners at Ryan Health and table at five locations in New York City, including Harlem, Washington Heights, Lower East Side, Upper West Side, and Hell’s Kitchen.

This week was incredibly successful in affirming the importance of primary care, strengthening our relationship with our Ryan Health Colleagues, educating potential clients and referring partners about our services, and providing an opportunity to recruit in person for our AHA-Healthcare by Food-funded trial.

Our clinical trial, “Enhancing, Culturally Adapting, and Expanding Medically Tailored Meals Programs to Promote Cardiovascular Health Equity,” is the first trial of its kind in New York City. It’s an exciting collaboration with our study Principal Investigator, Nour Makarem, FAHA, PhD, a faculty member and cardiovascular epidemiologist at the Mailman School of Public Health. This trial brings together diverse stakeholders, including our amazing partners at Ryan Health, other community-based organizations, food banks, and faith institutions, all of whom are deeply committed to health equity and identifying pragmatic and sustainable solutions to improve community health. Our trial’s unique focus on Food is Medicine approaches to address Type 2 Diabetes sets it apart and underscores its potential impact on health outcomes and centering Nutrition, Medical Nutrition Therapy and Education as critical interventions.
