Richard served two tours in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, stationed in Japan and Pakistan. After his military service, he earned a master’s degree in finance. He worked in nonprofits, hiked the Appalachian Trail, acted in film and theater in New York City, and married the love of his life, Marie.
Richard says that the healthcare system can leave patients feeling particularly vulnerable, post-treatment. “When you come home from the hospital,” he says, “you’re on your own.”
His oncology team recommended meals from God’s Love We Deliver. Richard tells us, “To be able to have these wonderful meals took so much of the pressure off, and it really saved my mental health. And about the meals themselves, the love is evident. Each entrée. You can see it!”
Both Richard and Marie are seniors. For Marie, being a caregiver has been extremely challenging. “Because of the state of medical care nowadays, there aren’t enough resources,” Marie says. “He is on a restricted diet. He has to eat at certain intervals. He has a very complex, insulin-dependent regimen.”
The team of dietitians at God’s Love make sure his meals are medically tailored to meet his dietary restrictions, helping him manage his blood glucose levels while recovering from cancer treatments. Our home-delivered meals alleviate the stress that comes with shopping and cooking.
So many of our neighbors, like Richard and Marie, struggle with serious illnesses. They rely on our generous community of volunteers and supporters, helping God’s Love provide nourishing meals, along with ongoing nutrition counseling, free of charge and full of love. “It was very frightening, very challenging,” Marie says. “God’s Love We Deliver was amazing. As a caregiver, you’re expected to make a lot of sacrifices, to take on a lot of responsibility. God’s Love really made a tremendous difference.”
