On Tuesday, April 14, more than 270 friends of God’s Love We Deliver gathered at the 12th Annual Authors In Kind. This literary luncheon, held at the Metropolitan Club, was emceed by Board Member, author extraordinaire and Authors In Kind founder, Linda Fairstein. Linda introduced each guest author, who then took the podium to share anecdotes and remarks about their work to the delight of our many guests. The authors signed books before and after the event, meeting and greeting guests and fans. This year’s authors included:
Linda Fairstein – Author of the Alex Cooper crime novel series including her most recent novels, Terminal City and Devil’s Bridge.
Harlan Coben – #1 New York Times bestselling master of suspense, Mr. Coben discussed his latest novel The Stranger.
Marcus Samuelsson – Award winning chef-owner of Red Rooster, his New York Times Best of 2014 cookbook captures the journey across the country that led him to the recipes he cooks at home for his wife Maya on a quiet night in.
Brad Gooch – Author of the acclaimed City Poet returns with a searing memoir of life in 1980s New York City in Smash Cut: A Memoir of Howard & Art & the ’70s & the ’80s.
Karen Pearl, God’s Love President & CEO, opened with moving remarks about how this event supports the important mission of God’s Love. She showed the work, growth and progress of God’s Love through a photo slideshow featuring images of God’s Love volunteers, the construction of the God’s Love SoHo site and more. Linda Fairstein, the tour de force behind Authors In Kind, made lovely remarks on the work of God’s Love, its history and the community it serves. Linda also made glowing introductions of each author.
Marcus Samuelsson spoke on the importance of food for community, how food nourishes the body and the spirit, and the importance of bringing meals to our neighbors – that meals that are lovingly prepared and lovingly delivered are filled with love. Brad Gooch spoke of his life in the 1980s in New York City, a relevant and moving topic, as that was the time of the founding of God’s Love We Deliver. Harlan Coben had the audience laughing with short stories on raising teenagers and what life is like for a writer.
Guests enjoyed iced coffee generously donated by RED THREAD GOOD Coffee — the partnership was announced at last year’s luncheon. For every cup of READ THREAD GOOD Coffee sold, 2 cents are donated to God’s Love We Deliver.
In honor of Mother’s Day, God’s Love had a special Mother’s Day appeal, called “Meals for Moms.” For this appeal, for every donation of $250 or more, Linda Fairstein agreed to sign and send a copy of her new book, Devil’s Bridge. Guests were delighted at such a thoughtful appeal and a wonderful gift from Linda.
Other attendees of Authors In Kind included: Ken Aretsky, Diane Harris Brown, Jennifer Diamond, Anne Goulandris, Lori Griffiths, Anne Keating, Ann Kempner, Patricia Fili Krushel, Peggy Siegal, Vicente Wolf, Kathleen & Victor Zammit, Jonah Disend, Jon Gilman, Barbara Goodstein, Louise Grunwald, Adrian Kahan, Laura Michalchyshyn, Joseph Kirk, Mark and Gaby Lehrer, Diana Lyne, Susan Lyne, Terrence Meck, Karen Naber, Richard and Jane Novick, Chris Poore, Scott Reinhardt, Bill & Kristi Ribbecke, Danny Sager, Michael Sennott, Jane and Patrick Shea, Sylvia Vogelman, Greg and Katy Williamson.
