“Life is good and God’s Love plays a large part in it. I am grateful.”
Our volunteer Michael Normile recently reached an extraordinary milestone at God’s Love We Deliver, having completed a whopping 4,000 hours of service! In retirement, Michael was looking for more of what life had in store for him and he found God’s Love We Deliver! Read on to hear more about his journey to God’s Love and all that he’s gotten from giving so much:
“I began volunteering at God’s Love in 2018. Two years earlier I had retired after an amazing 27 year career at an international corporate law firm where I worked in a very busy information/research center. I was privileged with the opportunity to spend my last 15 years working in the firm’s London office where I supported their European and Global offices. When I retired I returned to New York with a heavy heart but ready to discover what life had in store for me.
Retirement is a massive life change and I was searching for how I could replace a busy and rewarding career. I don’t remember exactly how I found God’s Love so I like to say it found me. Volunteering at this remarkable organization quickly became my new routine. Soon I was working 4 afternoons a week enjoying assembling meals for ill New Yorkers. It is an honor to work for God’s Love.
I believe I get back far more than I give at God’s Love by making new friends and enjoying their camaraderie as we work together. God’s Love has provided me with a new life structure filled with purpose and meaning. As I work together with other volunteers there is often lively conversation about Broadway, theater, movies and books. We share our personal favorites and experiences. Among my favorite authors are John Boyne and Tana French. I learned that I wasn’t the only one who couldn’t put down French’s “The Searcher” and “The Hunter.” I didn’t want them to end.
Outside of God’s Love I enjoy music, theater, reading, and city and country walks. In good weather I can be found sitting by the Hudson River watching life go by. I return to England every summer to join a group of friends. We rent a cottage for a week and walk the English or Welsh countryside, enjoy good wine, home cooked meals and each other’s company.
So life is good and God’s Love plays a large part in it. I am grateful.
God’s Love is a win win opportunity. Please consider supporting us. You might enjoy it as much as I do.”
Congratulations to Michael on this amazing milestone, and thank you for all you do for our clients!
