Love Rocks NYC 2023
Last night’s sold-out seventh annual Love Rocks NYC benefit concert for God’s Love We Deliver brought the house down at the historic Beacon Theatre with another magnificent night of live music! Music legend James Taylor made his Love Rocks NYC debut headlining a memorable evening that also featured music icons Mavis Staples, Sheryl Crow, Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, Warren Haynes and the reunion of the John Mayer Trio. The four-hour plus concert extravaganza also showcased dynamic performances from rock and soul contemporary stars including St. Vincent, Rufus Wainwright, Gary Clark Jr., Jim James, Ledisi, Allison Russell, The War and Treaty and Bernie Williams.
Our new President & CEO, David Ludwigson, welcomed the excited crowd highlighting how the annual benefit concert plays a significant role in supporting our life-affirming work. Since launching in 2017, the annual Love Rocks NYC concerts have brought together an astonishing lineup of musical talent, raising more than $25 million to date and helping to fund more than 2.5 million meals for our clients and their families.
Other special guests taking the stage and sharing their enthusiasm for God’s Love We Deliver included Stephen Colbert, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Phoebe Robinson, Gina Gershon, David Burtka and Neil Patrick Harris. Colbert called attention to the fact that there is never a waitlist to join God’s Love We Deliver, jokingly saying, “Maybe they should be in charge of Taylor Swift tickets.”
On the heels of International Women’s Day, many of the night’s incredible female artists dominated with compelling performances and inspiring messages. Highlights included Sheryl Crow welcoming St. Vincent to perform “Real Gone,” a soulful performance by Ledisi, and outstanding sets from both Mavis Staples and Allison Russell who also joined Rufus Wainwright. Rock legends Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo set the crowd on fire performing iconic hits “Love Is a Battlefield” and “Heartbreaker.”
The John Mayer Trio featuring John Mayer, Pino Palladino and Steve Jordan reunited for the first time in 6 years performing two of their originals and an electric cover of Jimi Hendrix classic “Who Did You Think I Was.” All of the artists returned to the stage to close the night with a rousing performance of “People Get Ready” in tribute to Jeff Beck.
The seventh annual Love Rocks NYC was executive produced by iconic international fashion designer John Varvatos, NYC real estate broker and prominent concert producer Greg Williamson and esteemed concert/events producer Nicole Rechter and was presented by Bloomberg Philanthropies.
