As President & CEO of God’s Love We Deliver, Karen Pearl says, we celebrate Pride all year long. That said, in June, we really paint our world in rainbows! Read below about some of the ways we’ve been celebrating this June, and sign up for a volunteer shift here to join in!

Our rainbow bunting is a key SoHo sight each June. You can’t walk down 6th avenue and miss our colorful celebration. From Rainbow bunting, to our Progress Flag flying high, our building proudly wears the month’s many colors.  The “Progress Pride Flag” designed by Daniel Quasar in 2018, includes Black, Brown and Trans colors. By raising this flag on our flagpole we acknowledge that Black, Brown and Trans voices have been leaders in this movement from the very beginning and have, for far too long, been left out of the narrative.

Our Savor Pride event used to be a one-evening in-person experience on our rooftop in June. Last year, due to the pandemic, we pivoted and brought the event into the digital space. We were thrilled at how many people could join us in this new format, that we expanded the event for 2021. We’ve hosted Savor Pride events every month for the last 6 months with LGBTQIA chefs and allies demonstrating their delicious dishes, and chatting with our supporters and hosts Mavis-Jay Sanders and Sicily Sierra! This season, we’ve featured Irene Wong, Ash Fulk, Woldy Kusina, Zoe Adjonyoh, Amanda Freitag, and this June, we cooked with Tiffani Faison. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our phenomenal chefs and sponsors.

On Thursday, June 24, staff and community members had a blast doing a West Village queer bar crawl. God’s Love partnered with Tito’s Handmade Vodka and I’m From Driftwood who created a fun mad libs for the event, and Tito’s also made a donation to fund 1,000 medically tailored meals in celebration of Pride! We raise a glass to our wonderful community. Thank you!

On Friday, June 25, God’s Love staff and genLOVE members came out for the New York Mets Pride Night! Thank you to MSG, the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Foundation, and the amazing Mets for the opportunity!

On Sunday, June 27, ABC will be broadcasting a Pride special and God’s Love will be featured! Tune in to ABC to catch Culinary Council member Chef Mavis Jay Sanders and President & CEO Karen Pearl talk about what Pride means to God’s Love, and to see our staff and volunteers celebrating the day. We’re thrilled about this opportunity to show God’s Love to such a large audience as we proudly proclaim #FeedYourPride!

Throughout the month we’ve had scattered “Surprise and Delight” days, where we’ve gifted volunteers and staff with colorful shirts and hats to brighten our kitchen and remind everyone that God’s Love was founded on the principal that everyone is deserving of love and pride of self.
