My name is Adrien Thomas.
This blog post describes my experience as an intern here at God’s Love We Deliver.
As early as my first day here I was welcomed by many people. I was given a tour of the building along with the story of God’s Love We Deliver and their mission (to feed medically tailored meals to the sick that can’t cook for themselves).
I then met a big part of the staff who also warmly welcomed me. I was then assigned a project. The ambiance and the atmosphere in the third-floor office was calm and relatively quick.
On my third day here I got to see the kitchen and how it operates. I helped alongside the volunteers; we placed beef patties on trays to make burgers. It was fun and the volunteers were very friendly.
This place works like a factory; everywhere were machines, pipes and metal clanks. Food was made in quick huge quantities because God’s Love We Deliver makes a couple thousand meals per day. But put the machinery and the assembly line aside, and what you see is hundreds of people every day putting love into action.
On Friday I attended a Bingo-Drag-Queen-Party in the building. It was an interesting experience because until that day I knew about bingo, but Drag Queens were foreign to me.
The weekend went by and on Monday I was back, but earlier than usual because I was going out for a delivery. I was paired with a very kind driver and we drove off to northern Manhattan.
After driving for about twenty minutes we arrived at a beautiful brick residential area with many water-bursting fire hydrants making multiple free car washes.
Our delivery process was divided into three parts:
- Getting the specific meals for each client and for his or her family in the cool back of the truck.
- Taking the bags into the building by either ringing or calling.
- Then going to the apartment and handing the bags over to the client.
Behind every door was a warm smile and a heartwarming greeting.
When 6th and Spring Street intersect is where one would find the most friendly, ethical, devoted and united organizations out there.
Regardless of race, gender, sexuality, or ethnicity, God’s Love We Deliver will always greet you with open arms.
The time I spent here was purely wonderful and I enjoyed every second of it.
Thank you, God’s Love We Deliver.
