Remembering Our Roots

On Tuesday, friends of God’s Love We Deliver gathered at Poster House for a special evening exploring Love & Fury: New York’s Fight Against AIDS, an exhibition that chronicles the grassroots response to the AIDS crisis through posters, public health campaigns, activist artwork, and community-driven advocacy.

For God’s Love, the evening was more than a visit to a museum. It was an opportunity to reflect on the extraordinary community from which our organization was born.

More than four decades ago, at a time when fear, stigma, and loss were defining daily life for so many New Yorkers, communities stepped forward to care for one another. Neighbors became caregivers. Volunteers became lifelines. Acts of compassion became movements. God’s Love We Deliver emerged from that spirit of action and humanity, delivering meals and hope to people living with AIDS when both were desperately needed.

What made the evening particularly meaningful was the presence of so many longtime friends, supporters, volunteers, and advocates whose connections to God’s Love span decades, and in some cases, our entire 41-year journey. Together, we reflected on a period that tested the strength of our city while also revealing the extraordinary power of community.

As we walked through the exhibition and shared stories from the past, we were reminded that the same values that inspired our founding continue to guide us today: compassion, dignity, action, and love.

The challenges facing our clients may have evolved, but one thing remains unchanged: God’s Love We Deliver exists because of a community of people who show up for one another. We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us for this special evening and to all those who have helped build and sustain this remarkable organization over the last 41 years.

Our roots are grounded in community. Our future is powered by it.
