On October 1st, the Allen-Stevenson School’s 3rd grade class paid a visit to God’s Love We Deliver. The 28 boys were buzzing with excitement to be in the place that they had done so much reading about in preparation for their visit, and we were excited to host them! The class split their time between taking a tour of our facilities, including the rooftop garden and kitchen, and making birthday cards for our clients.
“The students asked many great questions about our work: ‘How long does it take to bake a birthday cake?’ (We produce 150 cakes per batch and they bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes); ‘Is it always someone’s birthday?’ (with over 16,000 clients, odds are yes!); and ‘Can you be allergic to hairnets?’ (we hope not!).”
The 3rd graders’ work isn’t over yet: they plan to share what they learned about God’s Love We Deliver with the entire Allen-Stevenson student body and are spearheading the school’s initiative to decorate 500 tote bags that we’ll use to make meal deliveries on Thanksgiving morning.
This visit was a wonderful example of the ways that the youngest in our communities can have an outsized impact. Thank you, Allen-Stevenson School! We hope to see you back here soon.
