Yesterday was the 11th Anniversary of 9/11. As our staff, volunteers, clients and entire community paused to remember, we also remembered how our entire community was affected by the events of that day and how we all stand together.
Since 9/11, God’s Love remains a pillar of strength and hope in Lower Manhattan and in New York City, connecting so many people to the services they need and to people who care. We are so proud of our community and honored to know so many generous and committed individuals, corporations and friends.
While we reflect on 9/11, our friends at BGC Partners also remember 9/11 and honor those we lost in a unique way, by donating to charity. Yesterday, God’s Love was honored to be a part of the 8th Annual BGC Charity Day in New York City.
BGC Partners is one of the world’s leading inter-dealer brokers with 18 offices across all major time zones with over 1,400 brokers worldwide. Sadly, BGC was the largest corporate victim of 9/11, losing 658 staff in the attacks. Since then, every year BGC holds a Charity Day in commemoration of the victims of September 11. Their offices around the world are visited by celebrities, on behalf of charities. This year, we joined BGC Partners, and more than 100 other charities worldwide, for the 8th Annual BGC Charity Day.
All profits raised from this event are then given from BGC to charity — $12 million was raised last year!
As many of you know, God’s Love We Deliver cooked and delivered over 3,000 meals for search and rescue workers in the days following September 11. This anniversary and this day are close to our hearts.
We received fantastic support from some of our wonderful celebrity ambassadors. Tamara Tunie, Kyle MacLachlan, Leila Lopes (Miss Universe) and Olivia Culpo (Miss USA) took time out of their busy schedules to join forces with us and help raise funds to ensure that no one has to face the dual crises of hunger and illness.
