Monday night was not an ordinary start to the week! We headed to the East Village to Club Cumming for “Mondays in the Club with Lance”, a series where people party around a piano, singing cabaret-style songs. Emmy-award winning composer, pianist, singer, and music director Lance Horne hosted the evening full of music and friendship.
As we approach Thanksgiving, Lance decided to use the night to amplify the mission of God’s Love We Deliver. Throughout the evening, he encouraged people to get involved and support us in our mission to cook and deliver medically tailored meals to people living with illness.
The energy of Club Cumming was magical and electric with many highlights. One of the standout moments was when “Pony” Ramirez joined the stage for one of his legendary New York stories, affectionately called “Pony-tales”. We were in for something special as he recounted what it was like on the ground in NYC during the height of the AIDS epidemic in the 80s. Pony recalled the few clinics such as St Marks clinic, Callen Lorde clinic, and God’s Love We Deliver that were there for people when they needed it the most.
Brandon Bryant then took the stage with an original God’s Love We Deliver tin can that used to be prominently displayed to collect donations across New York years ago and now our updated dip jar for people to donate via credit card. Brandon spoke to the audience about our current Thanksgiving efforts for anyone looking to sign up as a volunteer delivery driver or for those hoping to get involved in the future.
A big thank you to our dear friend, James Palazza, for joining us on Monday and connecting us to Lance. Additional thanks to Amy Secunda and Dorinda Medley for spending the evening with us. And of course, our beloved friend, Alan Cumming for having such a fun and welcoming space.
We hope this is the first of many more Monday nights to come!
