“Pride is a huge part of my life. It took me time to fully understand my identity, so now being able to celebrate it openly, and be surrounded by people who accept me, means everything. Pride is joyful, it’s freeing, and it’s something I carry with me all year long.”

Our Kitchen Assistant Gabby takes her Pride from the street to the kitchen every day! Having graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 2024, Gabby found God’s Love through her friend and fellow student, Emmanuel, who now also works in our kitchen. Being around food is Gabby’s number one joy in life, and she tells us,
“I am happiest when I’m cooking, especially for other people.”
And so here she is at God’s Love We Deliver! Whether she’s making our beef picadillo (her favorite, as it’s “so flavorful and comforting”) or making sure our rainbow sprinkle Pride cookies have extra sprinkles, Gabby feels like she’s found a home she’s so proud to be in, among staff and volunteers she loves.
When we asked her why she chooses God’s Love and what makes this work meaningful to her, she told us,
“What makes this place really special to me goes beyond the food. As a queer person living with a chronic illness, it means so much to be part of a mission that started by supporting primarily the queer community during the AIDS crisis and has grown to serve people with all kinds of chronic illnesses. I see myself in this work, and it’s incredibly meaningful.”
As our early morning cook, Gabby gets up at 4:15 a.m. and, while tired, she’s always excited to walk through our doors, connect with coworkers and volunteers, and to share space with people from so many different backgrounds.
And by the time she leaves?
“I’m exhausted, but completely fulfilled … and PROUD!”
Happy Pride 🏳️🌈 from Gabby, our kitchen, our bakery, and all of us at God’s Love!
