God’s Love We Deliver has joined forces with City Harvest to ensure New Yorkers who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves receive the medically tailored meals their diagnoses urgently require. With demand for home-delivered meals increasing by more than 10% each year, God’s Love is nearing cold, frozen, and dry storage capacity at its home base, the Michael Kors building in SoHo. To mitigate this issue, God’s Love is working with City Harvest, New York City’s first and largest food rescue organization, to use space at the Cohen Community Food Rescue Center in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. This partnership will enable God’s Love We Deliver to store thousands of medically tailored meals to be delivered weekly to our clients living with life-altering illness.
This year, God’s Love We Deliver will cook and home-deliver more than 3.9 million medically tailored meals to nearly 13,000 New Yorkers. With space rented from City Harvest, members of our meal packaging team report to the Cohen Community Center Monday through Friday to pack 20,000 meals per week. Our drivers then come to City Harvest in God’s Love vans to pick up these meals and deliver them to more than 1,500 clients in Brooklyn. All while continuing our full operation at the Michael Kors building.
This initiative is the latest iteration of a longstanding, collaborative partnership as these mission-aligned organizations work together to feed New Yorkers experiencing food insecurity and malnutrition. In 2018, the two launched a collaboration for God’s Love to utilize produce rescued and delivered by City Harvest in their medically tailored meals. In return, God’s Love began donating meals to City Harvest for distribution to food pantries and soup kitchens across the five boroughs. Since the program launch, the partnership has resulted in 50,000 donated medically tailored entrees and soups and 109,077 pounds of donated produce.
Since the early days of the AIDS crisis, God’s Love has worked tirelessly to ensure that New Yorkers living with and affected by severe illness always have nutritious meals, delivered free of charge and full of love. Partnerships like this are critical to the organization’s success in meeting the ongoing need for medically tailored meals.
