On March 28, 2023, God’s Love along with our colleagues from programs across the country conducted a Hill Day in Washington, D.C.

The Hill Day gave us the opportunity to update our Congressional Representatives on who God’s Love is serving, what programs we offer, and the volunteer commitment we are so fortunate to have from our community. It also gave us the chance to share with Congressional offices our priorities for Congress for this year. The Congressional priorities are those we put forward in collaboration with our colleagues and our national organization, The Food is Medicine Coalition.

These priorities include:

  • Changing healthcare policy to fund, deliver and explicitly evaluate, in both Medicare and Medicaid, the Medically Tailored Meal (MTM) intervention we all provide.
  • Funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Nutrition for their Centers of Excellence to further study diet-related diseases and nutrition disparities, including efficacy of Food is Medicine services.
  • Supporting the reauthorization of the Farm Bill including boosting access to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), scaling investments that provide access to fresh fruits, enhancing consumer awareness about nutritious and healthy foods, and providing Medically Tailored Meals to ill Americans directly in their homes and communities.

We were so gratified to hear the responses to our services and priorities. We have garnered growing support for the MTM intervention these past few years and have developed deeper working relationships with many champions on the Hill. We look forward to continuing our work advancing these priorities in the months ahead.
