Recognizable by her purple hair and beloved for her warmth and easy laugh, we remember and celebrate a dear friend to so many at God’s Love, Brenda Curtis.
A near-daily volunteer in our kitchen, Brenda was loved by our volunteers and staff alike. She knew how to have fun and showed us by example that every day is a gift to be shared with others. In her more than ten years of service at God’s Love, she amassed a whopping 9,600 volunteer hours.
She was full of energy, loved a bit of mischief, and helped more than a few of us through difficult times with her kindness and straight talk. At 81, after traveling by bus and train more than an hour to our kitchen, she would scoop 600 pounds of rice out of the cookers while keeping us all laughing and making sure we were doing what we were supposed to be doing.
Brenda shared her love of life and compassion for others with the entire God’s Love community. We will miss her dearly and treasure her memory always.
