For our Business Development and Community Partnerships team, the future will bring new opportunities to serve the most vulnerable populations through new and creative models, including the New York Health Equity Reform (NYHER) 1115 Waiver Demonstration, which allows for experimental pilot projects within Medicaid programs, giving the state flexibility to test new approaches to healthcare delivery.
Social needs such as food insecurity, housing instability, and lack of transportation directly affect the health of vulnerable New Yorkers. To ensure that these needs are consistently addressed for New York State’s Medicaid population, the state has established a strategic infrastructure through which the Medicaid population’s unmet social needs can be identified and addressed. This new 1115 Waiver is the first time a coordinated effort has been made to address health-related social needs statewide. It is truly historic.
God’s Love is thrilled to be part of this inaugural 1115 Waiver in New York State and celebrates the opportunity to expand our services to the Medicaid population across the state. Through this Waiver, we will be able to provide our medically tailored meal and medical nutrition therapy services to an even larger population. We’ll also be able to strengthen our community partnerships with other community-based organizations across the state, helping to spread our mission of Food Is Medicine.
So, while it may be cold outside, it’s warm in our hearts at God’s Love as we welcome this bright and innovative future, and the possibilities it brings to help those in need. We can’t wait to get started.
