Volunteer Katherine Lowe: Over a Decade of Deliveries

When Katherine first moved to NYC with her family, she began searching for a way to give back to their community in a hands-on way. After learning about God’s Love through her son’s school, she decided to sign up for meal delivery on Thanksgiving. She still recalls the feeling of warmth she felt when she pulled up to God’s Love with her husband, kids, and mother who was 80 years old at the time: “We were overwhelmed by the kindness, the joyfulness, the feeling of belonging…especially since we were new to the city.”

Every week since then, Katherine has returned to God’s Love to do walking deliveries with her fellow volunteers who have become close friends. She looks forward to catching up with the regulars and meeting new volunteers before heading out to make deliveries. Katherine believes that each meal from God’s Love really makes a difference. Every time she delivers, she wants to be a ray of sunshine in that client’s life. In her own words, “I might be the only person that client interacts with that day, or perhaps, a couple of days. Even if it’s a brief interaction, I want to make sure it’s one with a big smile and as much positivity as I can pass on.”

Outside of her regular shift, Katherine has participated in the AIDS Walk, Pride March, and volunteered at the New York City Wine and Food Festival. This year, Katherine used social media to fundraise for the Race to Deliver and was proud to have surpassed her goal.

As Katherine prepares to move to Spain in September and begin a new chapter in her life, we wish her well! You will be sorely missed here at God’s Love. Thank you for your generosity and dedication throughout the years. ¡Buen viaje!
