I depart for France this evening for my 15th fundraising bike ride and the 5th ride where God’s Love We Deliver is my designated beneficiary. Right now I am about $400 short of raising $10,000 for God’s Love. It is my goal to give them 10% of what they need for the new boiler.

I am always excited about these rides, but they also make me reflect on things. I will be on a bike ride on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. I was in Portland, Maine on 9/11 ten years ago, having just completed the Montreal to Portland ride. I was scheduled to fly home that morning out of Portland from the same airport that some of the hijackers flew out of earlier that day.

Two people are particularly on my mind right now. My friend, Kathy, was with me in Portland because she crewed that ride. My friend, Carl, was staying in our apartment and watched one of the planes fly past our windows before hitting one of the towers. Sadly, both Kathy and Carl have passed away since then due to health issues. God’s Love serves clients with the same health challenges that Kathy and Carl endured. Therefore, I think it fitting that I dedicate this ride to their memory.

Paris in the morning!
