It’s been a week of mixed emotions here at God’s Love, following Hurricane Sandy – concern for the safety of our clients, volunteers and staff, sadness for those that have lost so much, gratitude for what’s still standing and pride for our volunteers and staff that have worked tirelessly and travelled far to help their neighbors in need. Despite having no access to email or phones, we have received an overwhelming outpouring of support from our dedicated volunteers: making generous donations online to help us purchase new food, spreading the word through Facebook and Twitter, answering our call to head out on a delivery van for the day, or even just stopping by the office to lend a hand making emergency bags for our clients.
From the Volunteer Department, and everyone at God’s Love, we can’t thank you enough for your help, support and love. It’s so inspiring to see everyone come together in times like these and we feel incredibly fortunate to have volunteers like you, who are always willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that our clients receive their meals. We know that many of you are without power/water/transportation yourselves so it makes your assistance this week that much more remarkable. We know that things are pretty crazy and a little disorganized right now, but we really appreciate not only your time, but your flexibility and patience with us as we figure everything out.
We know that everyone is eager to lend a hand and we certainly appreciate all the inquiries and offers of help. And once we have lights back on to work in, food in our kitchen to prepare and gas in our vans to deliver, you can be sure that we will be in touch! Until then, stay updated with us on Facebook and Twitter. And if you’d like to make a donation to help us restore what has been lost, you can do so here.
