Two requests we often get in the Volunteer Department are for more weekend opportunities and more kid-friendly opportunities. While we do have amazing kitchen shifts on Sunday and a great bag decorating/birthday card making program for our younger volunteers, we also have a few really fun events in the fall that satisfy both of these requests! The first is the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer on Saturday, October 16th. Since Avon has been such a wonderful sponsor of God’s Love over the years, we’re showing our support with a cheering station as well as making the lunches for the walkers on Saturday morning.
The next event is our Thanksgiving Basket Day, which takes place on Saturday, November 20th (the day before the Race to Deliver, hint, hint!). Every year, we give our clients a gift basket to go with their special Thanksgiving meal, filled with holiday treats. Volunteers are needed to assemble and package the baskets.
And the last event is our Blizzard Box Day on Sunday, December 19th where we put together our emergency boxes for our clients. The boxes are filled with non-perishable items in the rare event that our clients cannot receive their delivery.
If you are interested in volunteering for any of these events, please contact Kate Suhr at ksuhr@glwd.org. It’s a great way to celebrate the holidays with God’s Love!
