“When my husband passed away in 2019 I was looking for something to keep me busy and engaged with others. I had a colleague who volunteered in the kitchen and I said to myself, ‘Let me fill out the needed information, show up and see what happens.’ Three years later, I’m still here!
I’ve been doing walking deliveries for the past 2 years. I always say that God’s Love is a well-oiled machine. I look forward to everything about my shifts on Wednesdays and Fridays: Jesus in Delivery and the other God’s Love staff that bring the packaged meals to us, the gathering of volunteers before we head out where we chit chat and catch up, the snacks and goodies that are always there for us, and the pristine environment. One of my favorite memories is when I had the opportunity to be a part of a special collaboration with Broadway’s @dearevanhansen. We were picked up in these cool Evan Hansen cars and the actors helped to deliver the food to our clients.
I was first familiar with God’s Love when I started working in HIV back in the 1990’s. Part of my job then was to make referrals. Now that I’m retired, 30 plus years later, it almost feels full-circle that I’m now delivering the food to clients who need it. And I’ll be here as long as God’s Love will have me.”
