1 pint of blood saves 3 lives! So, what happens when two nonprofits join forces to host a blood drive? Pure magic of course!
On September 15th, 2025, God’s Love We Deliver joined the New York Blood Center for our second annual blood drive in recognition of National Sickle Cell Awareness Month.
Sickle cell disease is the most common inherited blood disorder in the United States and affects approximately 100,000 Americans. The condition alters the oxygen-carrying red blood cells, causing them to clog small blood vessels. The result is the patients suffer excruciating pain episodes, and the lack of oxygen delivery to the tissues causes severe damage to their major organs. The New York Blood Center serves the transfusion needs of patients affected by sickle cell disease. Do you know that sickle cell disease is a covered diagnosis for our program? This is why this partnership brings significant value and awareness to both organizations.
Yadira Navarro, Director, Community and Stakeholder Relations gracefully conveyed, “These donations help patients that are in need of diverse blood (donations that are genetically matched to their own) and we’re so grateful for our volunteers at God’s Love We Deliver for making that lifesaving gift.”
With the help of our staff, volunteers, and friends, we collected 26 lifesaving donations enabling the New York Blood Center to positively impact over 78 lives in the community! We also brought in 8 new donors! Can someone say, “Wins all around!”
Thank you to our neighbors, Dominique Ansel Bakery, for paying it forward and generously donating sweet treats for our donors. We felt the love AND the stabilizing of our blood sugar.
Special thank you to Peader who stopped in, while on vacation, after seeing our sandwich board on the street, and Ashley for choosing to give blood in her work neighborhood when her regular home neighborhood schedule didn’t work out!
As we recognize National Sickle Cell Awareness Month and on behalf of God’s Love We Deliver and the New York Blood Center, thank you to our donors for giving blood. The thought of the good we can do together inspires me.
