Hanging on to a Longstanding Tradition with Friends Seminary!

We know the holidays are around the corner when our friend, Kristi Ribbecke, reaches out to us gearing up for the Friends Seminary Holiday Assembly. Friends Seminaryis the oldest continuously coeducational independent school in New York City serving students in Kindergarten through Grade 12 within the landmarked district of the East Village.

Last month, students gathered over the course of three days to decorate bags that will be used to carry Winter Feast meals to our clients who are living with illness during the holiday season. As a sweet treat, each student received a God’s Love signature brownie from the Parents Association to commemorate a tradition dating back to 1990.

Prior to Friends Seminary delivering the bags to God’s Love, the bags are traditionally hung from the ceiling of the Meetinghouse on campus until they hold their Holiday Assembly in December. The consensus is holiday magic in the air!

Friends Seminary alumni and reporter for 1010 WINS, Samantha Liebman, stopped by the God’s Love kitchen before Thanksgiving reflecting on the tradition she continues to do with her family. “It was always beautiful to see all the bags decorated hanging in our Meetinghouse. And as an adult taking my own children to decorate was special. It’s a small thing that we can do to brighten someone’s day and teach the kids about caring for others”.

Kristi and fellow parent volunteers were beyond thrilled to hang these beautifully decorated bags this week. “None of us had been in the school or Meetinghouse in over a year and a half so you can only imagine how emotional and special it was to be together serving side by side for such an amazing organization like God’s Love. As you can see, we have some gorgeous bags coming your way on 12/17.”

Additionally, students from Friends raised over $7,500 for God’s Love at our Race to Deliver gearing up for Thanksgiving. Thank you to the 22 runners, those who donated, and the community that cheered them on!
