To Our Volunteers: Thank You for Being a Friend!

During National Volunteer Week this April, God’s Love We Deliver celebrated our community of volunteers through the theme “Thank You for Being a Friend.” Thanks to our 14,000 dedicated volunteers, this year we will cook and home-deliver more than 3.4 million meals to more than 11,000 individuals.

Our President & CEO David Ludwigson kicked off the week with a thank you message to our amazing volunteers.

Throughout the week, volunteers spun a wheel for various prizes including God’s Love photo frames, water bottles, notebooks, and gift cards. God’s Love Pastry Chef Dorothy Auer also baked special cookies and brownies for volunteers to eat. Other donated appreciation gifts included chocolate from Tony’s Chocolonely, socks from Bombas, products from Centric Brands, a special gift bag filled with products from L’Oréal, and more. Volunteers also had the opportunity to win Delta Air Lines ticket vouchers, gift certificates to Melba’s Restaurant in Harlem, and tickets to see The New York Mets in action at Citi Field.

Volunteers Phyllis, Vinnie, Dite, and Lorna were also featured in the New York Post in their Volunteer Spotlight.

Celebrity volunteers also spent time with Pastry Chef Dorothy Auer in the bakery, decorating birthday cakes for clients at our first inaugural Birthday Bake Sale Party. In attendance were Richard Kind, Alex Michaels/Alexis Michelle, Victoria Brito, Candace Bushnell, L Morgan Lee, Stellene Volandes, Claudia Oshry, Sam Leicht, Jared Reinfeldt, and Zack Calderon.

NPR‘s Ari Shapiro also volunteered in the kitchen helping prepare meals and getting to know our kitchen.

Thank you to the Volunteer Department Yolanda, Roberto, Shaine, Annalee, Rich, and Jesse for managing all of our outstanding volunteer individuals and groups not only just during National Volunteer Week, but all year long as well.

It is with great admiration and appreciation that we celebrate our volunteers this National Volunteer Week. God’s Love We Deliver is powered by the hands and hearts of more than 14,000 volunteers and 440 corporate, student, and community groups who power our mission every day. Thank you for helping us continue to always serve our neighbors. We say it all the time, but we simply couldn’t do this work without you.
