12 Ways to Give Back in 2022

Year after year, our community finds unique ways to support the clients of God’s Love. Through volunteering, donating, and simply acting as an ambassador, you have done so much to make sure we can always be there for our neighbors living with severe and chronic illness. While 2021 brought many new challenges, your dedication, creativity, and compassion remains the same! Through it all, you have inspired us and given us so much strength as we continue to improve the lives of thousands of vulnerable New Yorkers every day, through every season. From all the clients at God’s Love, thank you.

Here are some creative ways that you gave back in 2021 to spark inspiration for your service plan in 2022!

1. Volunteer with a Friend

Looking for a meaningful way to spend time with your loved ones? Give back together by signing up to volunteer with friends or family. Whether in the kitchen or in Client Meal Delivery, we welcomed so many volunteers, new and old, to God’s Love. Sign up to volunteer with your friends here.

2. Host a Lasagna Party

Our dedicated Thursday night volunteers banned together to host the 12th Annual Lasagna Night Fundraiser! This year due to COVID-19, the Lasagna Night went virtual. Despite these challenges, our volunteers raised more than $22,000 for God’s Love. In the last 12 years, the Thursday night lasagna dinner folks have raised more than $156,000 for God’s Love, funding more than 15,600 meals for our clients! Richie Fink, shift member and Lasagna Dinner co-organizer along with Joan Adler, tells us, “This fundraiser is our way of showing that we all care deeply about helping our clients, no matter how much one is able to give.”

3. Bake Treats for a Cause that Can't be Beat

Laura delivering yuletide joy and delicious cookies!

Our volunteer, Laura, hosted  the Arst Cookie Bake to raise funds for God’s Love! Laura spread holiday cheer by baking delicious sweets, packaging them, and delivering them to donors. With 44 donors, 435 cookies, 6 lbs of brittle, and 280 pieces of fudge, they delivered a whole lot of deliciousness and holiday cheer! This year, her bake sale funded 250 meals for our clients living with illness. If you host a bake sale, please get in touch with our communications team at so that we can share your story with our community.

4. Mark Milestones with God's Love

Blaze with Chefs Ryan and Herminio

Our young friend, Blaze, raised funds and awareness for our children’s meal program through his bar mitzvah. His phenomenal fundraising efforts and generosity of spirit blew us away! If you’re looking to turn your celebration in to a fundraising opportunity, see our Create a Fundraiser page for ideas. And, if you’re looking for family-friendly volunteer opportunities, visit our Volunteer Opportunities For Kids & Families page.

5. Dedicate a Tile for Love

Jesse, with friend and volunteer shiftmate Feline Lo.

After losing our vibrant and loving volunteer, Jesse Lopez, his close-knit volunteer family came together to honor his memory. While Friday mornings will never be the same without Jesse, his fellow volunteers assured he will become a permanent part of his home, his family, and his happy place in the God’s Love kitchen by purchasing a Tile for Love. We invite you to join in and participate in our Tiles for Love campaign, with all proceeds going directly to our mission to care for our clients living with illness.

6. Dinnerware that Shows You Care

Leeway Home founders, Lyle and Sam, delivering meals and a special holiday surprise to our clients.

Leeway Home founders, Lyle and Sam, organized an early morning volunteer shift in the kitchen with their colleagues. After this shift, Sam and Lyle hit the streets of Manhattan to deliver meals to our clients living with illness and gift some of our clients a set of their signature dishes. Sam and Lyle then took their support of our neighbors living with illness to the next level by running a promotion where a portion of every online purchase made at Leeway Home was donated to God’s Love. Watch Leeway Home volunteers in action here.

7. Cultivate Community with Your Coworkers

Feeling Zoom fatigue and looking for a way to team build with your coworkers? Sign up for a group volunteer shift! There is no better way to bond with your colleagues while helping others. Shifts of 20 volunteers are available now!

8. Honor a Loved One Affected by Illness

As our Director of Delivery Damone Jackson cared for his mother while she battled cancer, he felt a deep connection to our clients living with illness. When Damone’s mother passed, he decided to pay homage to her life by starting a fundraiser to prove clients who have mobility issues with utility carts to carry their food from their front door to their refrigerator. The carts will also be useful for our clients as they complete additional tasks around their homes. Please join us in honoring Damone’s late mother, Sharon Braxton, by contributing to our Carts of Love for Clients campaign. You can also make a gift in honor or in memory of someone you care about when you make a donation.

9. Create Cards for Our Clients

No matter what you are going through, we believe it’s important to take a moment to stop and celebrate! People of all ages can help our clients celebrate holidays and birthdays by decorating cards and sending them to us in SoHo. With many of our clients feeling isolated during COVID, this is a fantastic way to deliver an extra dose of love and cheer. Send Cards of Caring.

10. Shop Fashion and Philanthropy

When our friends at On This Day opened their new store in SoHo, they immediately started bringing God’s Love into their plans. In November, they hosted a shopping event where 20% of all proceeds went to God’s Love. Shoppers were able to step out in style all for a good cause. If you’d like to host a shopping event in support of our mission, please reach out to Stephen Covello, Director of Key Donors and Partnerships, at or 212.294.8144.

11. Leave a Legacy of Love

Legacy Society member, Alfred Szymanski.

Alfred Szymanski has been a supporter of God’s Love We Deliver since our early years responding to the HIV/AIDS crisis.  But when Alfred retired, he wanted to do more than what his fixed income allowed him. When he learned about the Legacy Society, the decision to join was an easy one. He is proud to help ensure we can continue to provide love, dignity, and nutrition for years to come. Join Alfred and a whole community of incredible people as a member of our Legacy Society. Hear from more Legacy Society members here.

12. Hit High Notes for God's Love

Stephen Covello, Brandon Bryant, Lance Horne, and James Palazza at Club Cumming.

Every Monday, Emmy-award winning composer, pianist, singer, and music director Lance Horne hosts an evening of music and friendship at Club Cumming. As the holidays approached, Lance used the night to amplify our mission and collect donations! Thinking to do something similar with God’s Love? Please reach out to Stephen Covello at or 212.294.8144.

Thank You for all that You Do

Whatever your involvement, and however you choose to give your time, talent, support, and love, know that we are grateful for all of the many ways you help make our work possible. If you’d like to speak to anyone about making a donation, please reach out to us at or call us 212.294.8142. And if you’re looking to volunteer and have any questions, please reach out to or call us at 212.294.8158. Thank you!
