These are challenging and unprecedented times as we deal with the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City. The whole world is dealing with change and fear, and yet we are potently aware that the people we serve are among the most vulnerable to the dangers of the coronavirus: people who are already dealing with serious illness, many of whom live at or below the poverty line, and the majority of whom are elderly.

The God’s Love community has come together, while staying apart, via on online campaign called #WhoAreYouCookingFor to support our clients. Our supporters have been cooking meals at home that they wish they could share with their friends. They are tagging friends in a photo of their dinner and donating the cost of what they would have spent throwing a dinner party here. Each tag is an invitation to their friends to participate in the campaign as well.

Here’s how it works:

1. Take a photo or short video of a meal you’re preparing at home.
2. Post it on social media.
3. Tag friends you wish you could share the dish with.
4. Donate the amount the dinner for your friends would have cost at glwd.org/whoareyoucookingfor.
5. Include in your post an invitation to your friends to do the same with the handles: @godslovenyc, #WhoAreYouCookingFor, glwd.org/whoareyoucookingfor

Our friend and supporter, Samah Dada, not only volunteers, and brings in her community to volunteer too, but she also immediately agreed to help accelerate this campaign. Dr. Erich Anderer, God’s Love Board member, and neurosurgeon is working at a NYU Langone hospital on the front line to help New Yorkers during the coronavirus pandemic. He’s also supporting the clients of God’s Love We Deliver after he gets home. He barbecued this beautiful salmon as part of the #WhoAreYouCookingFor campaign.
