A Happy, Joyful, and Safe Thanksgiving to all!

Thanksgiving has always been a day of celebration and joy at God’s Love, but this year that is especially true when our clients are more isolated than ever because of the coronavirus pandemic. Bringing Thanksgiving to clients today reminds them that they are part of a loving community, and we could not have made today so special without your generous support.

Today we are also grateful to the more than 1,400 volunteers  who lent a hand with the preparation and delivery of 10,000 special Thanksgiving meals and tote bags to 5,000 households. You showed up at distribution centers all across the city, from RAP4 in the Bronx to Industry City in Brooklyn and many others in between to deliver meals, gifts, and a whole lot of love.

This year’s contactless meal delivery included an extra guest meals for every client, so that each person on our program could invite a friend to spend the holiday with them.  Each of the 5,000 households that we delivered to also received a holiday tote bag designed by Sophia Yeshi (scroll down for a photo!),  filled with treats and personal care items to help make the day special. These bags were generously donated by The Krumholz Foundation; The Binn Family Foundation in loving memory of Penny Binn Binstock, Stewart Lantner, DDS & Joseph Goldberg, DDS; AXA, and L’Oréal USA.

God’s Love We Deliver was also proud to deliver special meals to a shelter for unaccompanied minors, and Thanksgiving meals to LGBTQ homeless youth at the Ali Forney Center.

Here’s what it took to make our Thanksgiving meal:

  • 1,400 volunteers (thank you!)
  • 10,000 apple crisps
  • 7,700 pounds of turkey
  • 2,200 pounds of pumpkin
  • 2,200 pounds of carrots
  • 1,815 pounds of yams
  • 1,110 gallons of soup
  • 770 pounds of Brussels sprouts
  • 275 gallons of gravy

God’s Love also served a Fall Vegetable Casserole as our vegetarian entrée, as well as minced and pureed Thanksgiving meals for clients whose medical conditions require those modifications.

Thanksgiving at God’s Love is a huge community effort and we could not do it without our volunteers and supporters.

Please see our press from the holiday featured in Telemundo 47, NY Post, WCBS 880, PIX11, NBC New York, and NY1 (and on Roger Clark’s Twitter).

Thank you and happy Thanksgiving from all of us at God’s Love!
