May is AAPI Month! We’re celebrating with renowned chef, television producer, and Culinary Council member, Irene Wong!
Born in Brooklyn and raised in the kitchen of her grandparents’ restaurant, Irene was inspired by its sounds, smells, and sights to connect with others through food. When her grandmother became ill, Irene showed her care through time together and preparing her favorite dishes, especially Irene’s Sizzling Shrimp with Garlic Ginger Scallion Sauce.
Irene recently visited Xiao, a God’s Love We Deliver client based in Chinatown. Xiao benefits in many ways from our medically tailored meal program: she receives vegetables she loves in each delivery, and, importantly, her blood sugar levels have lowered. “I really enjoy receiving God’s Love nutritional meals,” Xiao says, “they’re great and suit my dietary needs perfectly.”
Through bringing meals to and sharing a heartfelt conversation with Xiao, Irene was reminded of caring for her grandmother. This AAPI month, Irene encourages us to visit our loved ones and share meaningful moments together.
