Michael Normile Lives His Values at God’s Love

Michael Normile in the kitchen
Michael Normile retired from his work at a law firm after 27 years in their research department, many of which were spent in London. His parents both became ill, and Michael returned to the States to care for them. Both of them soon passed. It was 2016. He found himself with extra time on his hands and began looking for a place to volunteer. He had heard of God’s Love We Deliver, so he came in and gave the kitchen shift a try. He started slowly, and soon he found himself volunteering four afternoons a week in our kitchen. He also delivered meals all over New York City with a friend who had a car.
Michael believes he was attracted to his work at God’s Love because growing up, he had seen his parents volunteer in the kitchen at their church. God’s Love felt somehow familiar. “Children mimic,” he says. Now, he feels blessed with the meaning he has found in working on behalf of the poor, the hungry, and the sick.
In addition to volunteering, Michael is a donor to God’s Love. He is also a member of the Legacy Society, a group of individuals who have chosen to include God’s Love in their estate plans. When asked what inspires him, he recalls the Gospel of Luke: “To whom much is given, much is expected in return.” In taking this to heart, he also gives to other charities and is an active member of the Church of St. Francis Xavier.
Michael (R) with fellow volunteers
In his free time, Michael loves to read, listen to choral music, take in a concert or a Broadway show, and walk along the Hudson in the summer. He also likes to return to the UK to see his London friends. Together they rent a house in Wales and do “day-walks” and eat good food. But he always returns to God’s Love.
